| How did you get started in music?: |
My father always wanted a drumkit when he was young, but he never got the chance to buy one.
When I was eight years old he came home with an old Sonor. He didn't have time to play it,
so I started trying in my spare time. I followed some lessons and started playing in bands
when I was 13. I played all kinds of music in all kinds of bands, but I never got to the point
where we could play professionally.
In 2001 I started studying at the Rock Academy in Tilburg, Netherlands. I met a lot of other
interesting musicians, who inspired me amazingly. When Arjen set up this sort of Karaoke-contest
on the Ayreon site, I saw the challenge to also re-record the whole instrumental tape. I had a
lot of help from a few friends of mine at school and so we recorded 'Day Eleven'. We won the
contest and about six months later I got an email from Arjen. He wanted to hear more from me,
so he arranged a sort of showcase by letting me play drums on the bonus disc of 'The Final Experiment:
Special Edition'.
So here I am playing in a band with one of my favorite artists all time and a bunch of muchos
talented musicians. I'm a happy man ;-)
